Improving Fluency with iPods

Subject:  Language Arts
Grade:  1
Technology tools:  iPod
Tools used:  iPod
Activity type:  literacy station

The learning target was reading with fluency.

The students practice reading books with fluency and then get to use the iPod to video each other reading.

I was able to view the videos and talk with the students about their fluency.  My students are very eager to read if they know they are going to get to use the iPod.

New Generation of "Word Wall"

Subjects:  Language Arts, Information Literacy
Grade:  K
Technology tools:  Interactive website, Audio
Activity type:  Literacy First year long

Learning Target:  I can repeat, say, and use words from the sound/word wall.

Students interact with words from the word wall when the words are put on the front board.  Students sort words from the word wall with the same beginning sound, rhyming words, final sound, etc.  Students will race against each other to locate the word that I say and move it to the correct area. Students trace and write their own words from the word wall.

Assessment:  Sight word test from words on the word wall based on Literacy First

The activity was successful.  The students enjoy using technology in the classroom.  Although we do have a word wall in our classroom, my students would rather use the word wall from the projector.  They enjoy the "games" we play as well.  Students enjoy working with partners and having word wall as a station when incorporating the word wall this way.
