Exploring Careers: Architechture and Construction

Subject:  CTE
Grades:  6, 7, 8

Technology tools:  Computer(s), LCD Projector
Tools used:  Interactive website
Activity type:  Lesson, Unit, Project, Assessment, Research

Students were studying Architecture and Construction as part of the Exploring Careers program for 6th grade.  They were to use an interactive website to learn how floor plans are drawn using CAD.  The students used http://www.smallblueprinter.com/ to accomplish this task.

The students used the computers in my lab and learned how to navigate the internet and install printers for their individual computers.

The students were given a lesson on floor plans and a short demonstration on the web site.  They then had to complete a given floor plan and then develop one of their own.

The lesson and unit were very successful and the students learned a lot about Architecture and what Computer Aided Drafting is used for.
