Using Tech Tools to Support Interactive Literacy Instruction

Subjects:  Math, Language Arts
Grades:  K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Technology tools:  Computer(s), iPad
Tools used:  Interactive website
Activity type:  Lesson, Assessment

Enhance students literacy and phonics skills.

I used various interactive applications on the iPad, kindle fire, and classroom computer to help students learn and review skills such as rhyming, blending and segmenting words, sight words, and previously taught literacy skills such as cvc silent e, consonant digraphs, etc.

These activities were successful and students were much more eager to participate in lessons and reviews that integrate use of technology. Using technology such as iPads has proven to be especially helpful with students with disabilities who are often discouraged by traditional pencil and paper assignments.
